If Don entered the Castle Combe Modified Saloon Championship which is probably the best in the country with full grids , he would be right up there at the front with the Mitsubisi Lancer Evo cars if his lap times in the Britcar series are consistant .

Just a quick post from me on the subject of the car itself. Forget about increasing the power levels (at least to start with), as long as the car is in good condition concentrate on the right choice of tyre, suspension setups, diffs and brake setups. These are of much more importance than power. Once these have been sorted, its time to get rid of the weakness of the car. Standard radiator has the oil cooler in built. A seperate Mocal oil cooler would solve the potential problem of the core splitting. Change the rods for some forged versions and you'll be set for higher power. You want to have the EGTs under control as you will be on full boost a fair number of times during a session, you would have a 16T turbo as standard, id be inclined to swap it for a Garrett GT28, S60R manifold, 3" downpipe, race cat and cat back exhaust. And while your there to lower the IATs, swap the standard intercooler for an uprated job. Remove all the dead weight from the car as this is free, air con, swap seats for racing ones etc etc. So much can be done on the weight saving front. Thats all i can think of for the time being.
Go with an older RWD volvo - so much more fun that a FWD car - maybe not as fast , but more fun - Ive done track days in 940 turbo Estate, sierra, BMW e30 325, 940turbo saloon - all great fun although the volvo estate didn't half scare the cateram and westfields!
