Tailgate lock problem

Hi all. I've got a 1999 classic diesel auto with a locking problem, the tailgate lock is jammed preventing the tailgate from latching and closing. I've tried remote locking and unlocking but the lock refuses to budge, even with the tailgate wide open the hazzard warning lights flash and the alarm will set. I've occassionally had the open tailgate light on the dash alight when the taigate is firmly closed and have had to open and close again. anything to do with it? Dog had to sit in the passanger seat on the way home in case the hatch flew open, he loved the leather. Help please. Toby

Hi, Time to remove the lock mechanism from the tailgate and give it a lube and clean. May also be worth checking whether the child lock is on or not... Make sure that you mark its position on the tailgate before you remove it. Des. . . ;)

Many thanks for that Des, it's solved the main problem of not closing at all (it now does) but it still won't lock on the remote and now the alarm won't set. Perhaps it's a new lock. Regards Toby

Hi, Dont forget to check the wires that run through the tailgate. I have just fixed a non locking tailgate by replacing the yellow wire to the lock. It had broken by the hinge. If you do a search you will find this is a common problem. Bri
