RE: OT: VST Firewire Drives

VST became part of Smartdisk, but I don't see any info on your drive on their website. As far as I know, none of the VST or Smartdisk drives use the Oxford 911 chipset that is required to use firewire drives with ProTools. Also, bus powered drives definitely will not work, you need a drive with it's own power supply. If you're having trouble getting the drive to mount and work correctly, you might try contacting Smartdisk's customer support, they may still provide support on older VST products.

RE: OT: VST Firewire Drives

Does it enclose a 2.5" or 3.5" drive? The yellow and orange drives were sold in both sizes: [image]http://reviews.macnn.com/reviews/vst/firewirehd.jpg[/image] [image]http://www.shrevesystems.com/gfx/firewirefh20large.gif[/image] If it's the larger, then it can't be powered via the FireWire bus, as can no 3.5" enclosed drive. It would need a power supply. The drive requires to much power. The smaller ones, however, (I have one) do receive power from the bus.
