Retrospect speed

MessageAuthor

I just tested Retrospect 6.0.204 on a dual 2 GHz G5 with built in superdrive (supported by Retrospect), I get around 20 meg/min or close to 4 hours for a single 8x DVD, and that's just for writting, no verification (toast take 18 min for the same amount of data with verification). It's slower than the 70-100 Meg/min we have for a dual 1 GHz G4 with a FireWire 48x CD burner (or the built in 1x DVD burner). Any ideas? Is it really the faster the drive, the slower the backup? JC

RE: Retrospect speed

we see average speeds of 150meg/minute on a G4/867 setup as a server, over gigabit ethernet, to a scsi DDS-4 i have never been satisfied with retrospect writing to an optical drive. I think retro is the best backup solution... DDS-4 has worked perfectly...

RE: Retrospect speed

If you're not freaked out by it, try backing up to a firewire drive, speeds up to 500 meg/min AS

and you definately have to apreciate the fact that it will just do it's thing in the background and does not at all bother with whatever else your doing. I use it together with Protools open all the time. Never notice it's there ...

FYI, we average 900MB/minute total (including confirming) over Gigabit to a Rorke LTO robot.

RE: Retrospect speed

We usually get around 400 MB/minute with AIT 2. DVD's are too prone to failure 5 years on AIT 2 not one error. That's pretty good in my books.
