Lipstick on a pig?

Advertising

MessageAuthor

So I wrote this song that's really not my best work, but I thought I'd try to improve it by tarting it up with some interesting sounds anyway. There's homemade percussion stuff, musical saw, etc. Might just be a case of putting lipstick on a pig, but at least I had fun playing cosmetologist for a bit. All comments and suggestions are welcome and encouraged.

RE: Lipstick on a pig?

Thanks, Kundalinguist. It was pretty blah with just one voice and guitar, which IMO is a sure sign of a not-so-great tune. But the other voices and stuff helped provide some interest. Your suggestion for drums is a good one. I'd love to hear some drums on this, but I lack real ones, and am not too keen on canned samples. If anyone wants to give it a go, let me know. I've never done any online collaboration, but I'm always up for trying something new.

RE: Lipstick on a pig?

Good melodies happening here. The vocals are a bit unglued from the mix. A little reduction in the body of the vocals ~280Hz or so may help. Gentle compression settings where the compressor doesn't let up on the vocals can make them a little less dynamic and defined and push them back into the mix a little bit as well. I like the sound of the guitar quite a bit. It works really well with the song. Catchy. Definitely worth working more with IMO. Nice job.
