AVC to VC-1

MessageAuthor

I have a large collection of mkv movies that I am looking to convert to Windows Media videos for easy compatibility with my Xbox. All the mkvs have AVC video tracks and of course WMV uses VC-1 as a video encoder. Every time I convert one the video track will not play in Windows Media Player, only the audio track. I have tried a few programs to convert the video and the only one that does not give me an error when trying to convert an mkv is DVDFab Video Converter which completes the process without any errors. I have checked the video file with MediaInfo and it properly converts it to the a VC-1 file with the correct bitrate and looks comparable to a wmv file that plays just fine. Does anyone have any suggestions that may solve my problem? I am concerned that I may have to trash my whole media library.

Post a link to a WMV file that does not play. You don't have to do a full movie, cut it down to manageable size.

I'd recommend use Expression Encoder with Haali Media Splitter. That should crack a mkv and has built-in decoding for AVC and most audio codecs you'd like to use. And it also has a faster, higher quality WMV encoder than most free tools, and handles 5.1 audio well.

At least for me it did create the output file before crashing.

Maybe you guys can use Avisynth virtual file system and feed EE with AVI? That does trick to me for Cinevision where avs input been crashed.
