Hello. I have used Mac's and PC's in deadline driven, heavy pressure, can't miss professional situations. I can honestly say that without a doubt Windows XP has been infinitely more stable. Infinitely. Not even close. Windows XP has not crashed on me in about 3 or 4 years. I absolutely mean that very seriously. I can't remember the last time I had a crash on XP. At least 4 years ago. That's on 3 different machines in that time period. The worst I have ever had is some applications that froze, and that's really only happened a very few times in 4 years, maybe 3 times. Application freeze, not an OS crash. And the machines were not tweaked in any excessive sense or anything, only the recommended tweak for Pro Tools. Simple stuff. As a comparison, the Mac's I use frequently crashed three or four times just last week. Only once on Pro Tools, they crashed with other applications. In those same four years the many different Mac's I have used I would venture to say have crashed hundreds of times, maybe thousands. So you do the math. 0 crashes in 4 years or 4 crashes a week (at some points). It's not even close as I have said. However, I know people who get phenomenal stability on Mac's and nothing but crashes on PC's. But, I really don't know anyone that can honestly attest to absolutely 0 OS crashes on Mac's in four years. If we go to the extremes, we will be able to find people who can say one is extremely superior to the other, but I think most people fall in the middle. XP is much more stable. As stated by many people however, while it is more stable, some people have violent negative reactions if XP is even mentioned, let alone using it. All of this to say, pick whatever you like and are comfortable with. Anyone who has honestly given both systems their fair shake can truthfully say they are both good and both bad, just different. Pick what you like. What mishar has brought up are extremely valid, open minded, practical points. The fact that one can now have both OS's in one computer is a great boon. We can now run all software on the same machine. Logic and GigaStudio. DP and Sonar. etc. Outside of illegal cracks, I don't think we'll see a standalone Mac OS that can run on PC's. I really wish Apple would change their mind on this. They should learn their own lesson. Some people may not remember but iPod's and iTunes were out for about at least a year or so and they were kind of drudging along. iTunes and iPods became a worldwide phenomenon when they became PC compatible. If they sold OS X as standalone software to run on PC's they would become massive also. The same for the iLife and iWork suites. We'll see how that goes, hopefully Jobs will go there. For now we can take solace in the fact that one can now use all software on the same computer. It's a great opportunity if one is open minded to the possibilities.
