Strange clicking noise

I hear this strange rhythmical clicking noise with every track that I play on my new iMac12,2. This didn't happen on my old iMac. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I have attached a recording (ogg format).

Does it happen with all programs (iTunes, Reaper, VLC, Quicktime, ...)? If you have a habit of using the sleep mode, I'd reboot the computer.

Thanks for the reply. No, this problem only happens in Reaper. And I seldom allow my computer to sleep. I shut it down every night.

Strange. Does it happen on all file formats? Wav, mp3, ...? Does it happen if a project has only one track and no plugins? What is the buffer size you are using for the audio device?

Do you have another DAW host you could try? The fast interval of the artifacts makes me think "something with the driver" so another DAW host (low latency is often needed to trigger issues) could preclude/confirm that. Macs are said to be not needing optimization, however that is probably not true for all models. post sums up some things you could try.

Yes, the error happens with all formats. Oddly, the clicking only occurs when sound is playing. During quiet bits of tracks I don't hear anything. What is a DAW host?
