why do you mention the MIDI connection? are you using it for some specific purpose? there are options for "anticipative fx processing." check those out. they could create a situation where one track is taking more time to be processed than another that's selected.

Ah, my fault...i've had MIDI on the brain lately. I meant to specify that it was *FireWire* as opposed to USB. Also, and i just noticed this, could it be an issue with the original track being a .WMA file? I don't think i've ever used a WMA as the original track i'm recording over. Maybe Reaper doesn't do well with them?

you can test the wma part by freezing or rendering the track to wav. what fx are on the vocal track? reatune maybe?

Man that must have been it. I just converted the original track to WAV and it's playing back flawlessly now. Odd little issue. But thanks so much for the help!
