I'm not affiliated with Steven Slate but I must say these are the best most natural drum samples I've come across. Well worth the money. You can here them in these little drum tests I did the other day (using a very old version of the slate samples 1.5, I'm still saving for V3). The Drummer is just trying to get his mix on the desk by his drums in hi cans so it' nothing special right now. The toms are replaced along with the bass drum. I've also tuned the samples to the 1st 3rd and 5th notes in the Eb Major scale. The samples are triggered using Piezo triggers (costing me less than 5 pounds for 10 piezos) of which I have 5 on the toms and one on the bass drum. I just soldered a jack to the two leads on each piezo and fed them to an old Behringer 8 channel DI which in turn is fed direct to my soundcard and in to reaper and then drumagog. This is actually using the live triggering mode on drumagog so the sound you hear on the mixes is the sound I hear in the control room and the drummer hears in his cans whilst playing. Using a Soundcraft FX16 for pre amps, a MOTU 2408 Convertor with a Behringer ADA8000. Overhead Mics are Niant X-T's. Snare Mic - Old AT MB/5k, Snare 2 - Shure PG56 HiHat and Ride both have a PG81 on them. There's a High pass EQ on the Cymbal buss (OH's, HiHat + Ride) around 300hz, A Simple EQ on the snare and that's it. Very low end set up but it does the job.
