Yes I know. I'm always trying to find available keys right next to each other. You know, zoom in zoom out forwards backwards up down east west north south....it's all so confusing.
"When shift, ctrl or alt, or combinations thereof is pressed, show the layout for that state." Ok lets, for the sake of simplicity, say the only shortcuts you had were: q shift w ctrl e alt r ctl+shift t Think of these as being four different states (i.e. four DIFFERENT views of the keyboard layout displayed on the screen) When you are not touching your keyboard you are in state one. All keys are greyed out except for your q key which is red. When holding down shift on your keyboard the displayed keyboard layout changes to state two (shift state if you will). All keys are greyed out except for your w key which is red. And so on.. I'm sure you get the idea.
Perhaps it would be easier to not have this in the actions list, but have it as part of the automatically created shortcuts html (from help\keyboard shortcuts) Another option would be a program that creates this when you insert the created html file.

Thanks Airon, that's EXACTLY it! Thanks for the pictures. I think once people see these pictures they'll want it, for example, think how much easier it would be to locate two available keys right next to each other.
I'd like to see a possibility to sort the action list in an additional way, so that all actions with "A" (+ any modifier) can be seen next to another, followed by all actions assigned to some "B" combination etc. That way free combinations could be identified quick without toggling through views. ... A.....................blahblah A.+SHIFT..........Yadayada this A.+CTRL............Yadayada that A.+SHIFT+CTRL..do the twist D.....................and shout D.+CTRL............kasdgkud ... (sorry for all the dots, forum software ignores spacebar..) It's easy to make out that I have some modifiers for A left and all B and C combinations free. The difficulty with this idea is how could actions with multiple assignments be handled? Should they appear multiple times when sorting this way?
