RE: Drop Down Menu In Track Name Box (THE SOLUTION FOR TRACK COLOR INCONSISTENCY)
+1 I often find it hard to be consistent with the colors I use for my tracks. This would eliminate the problem in a simple way.

RE: Drop Down Menu In Track Name Box (THE SOLUTION FOR TRACK COLOR INCONSISTENCY)
Track & Project templates help with this at least some. I have base project templates that contain what I think I need for certain types of instrumentation etc. As well as individual and groups of tracks for multiple purposes... Drum kit template, stereo guitar template, Lead Vox template, blah, blah.. So instead of using CTRL+T to insert a naked track I'll usually just insert the appropriate template track instead. Since I have all of these preset with consistent names, colors and settings it accomplishes a good bit of this and the only time I would use the name text box would be when I need a track that is out of the norm which once I set up, will become a track template for next time. It's a nice idea, but is it really that much more convenient than right-clicking an empty space in the TCP and choosing from the template menu?

I still don't think you're saving more than a single click per track, but I will agree that the template system could use a bit of streamlining from where it is now.

RE: Drop Down Menu In Track Name Box (THE SOLUTION FOR TRACK COLOR INCONSISTENCY)
Don't forget you can set up a batch of colours with SWS' extension. Those 16 colours have actions to trigger them as well. Bit of a click'o'rama, but at least you've got a column of 16 colours to choose from that way.
RE: Drop Down Menu In Track Name Box (THE SOLUTION FOR TRACK COLOR INCONSISTENCY)
Regarding the color aspect of this thread: You can get quite far with SWS extensions. You can build actions that select tracks by name as described in the "Name reactive buttons" part of this WIKI page: (scroll down a bit). And then there are the SWS actions to give a track a certain custom color out of a palette of 16. Combined, you can build an action that successively selects groups of tracks and colors them. Eg it first selects all tracks with "drm" in their name, colors them red, then all *bass* are selected and colored blue and so on. That way after you named the tracks you can have a one-button-tints-them-all function for up to 16 colors. And yes, it's only since I created that action that I begin to follow a consistent color code, as like the OP I always forget such things. I enjoy my new structured life :)
