Not sure what video they gave you, but yeah, you can record 8 simultaneous tracks with just the Digi001 box (however, you'll need 6 more preamps to boost your mic signals, since the Digi only has two). Now, your PC needs to be able to handle that much audio processing, so make sure you have lots of RAM, HD space, and follow the compatibility documents for configuration details. Often, your system will limit you more than the Digi001 and PTLE will. They really should redo that damn video. Kaleidescope angel wants to trip with me? GAG!

RE: Re: Perhaps a stupid newbie question...

but maybe not. I'm looking at various computer recording systems (001, MOTU, etc.). I like the 001 and ordered and watched their video. However, being a newbie I'm confused about something. Can I record two tracks at one time? What I want to do is record an acoustic guitar with a condensor mic and with the piezo direct into the board simultaneously. I recently did some studio work in which I was able to mix the condensor mic tone with a little bit of piezo tone. It not only saved the time and expense of trying to double the guitar part but the two different tones, when mixed together correctly, produced a really nice full sound. Assuming I've got a decent mixer, can the 001 record two tracks simultaneouly? Thanks for your thoughts and advice.

To do what you describe with the 001 you don't even need a mixer. You could connect the condenser mic and the piezo directly to the 001's front panel mic inputs. You can do a lot more than two simultaneous tracks as well. I often record as many as 13 tracks simultaneously. Of course, to do more than 8 tracks simultaneously you need an external mixer and a Lightpipe converter. You really can record as many simultaneous tracks as you have available inputs with the Digi 001. Mike
