What happens? Does the PC burst into flames? I have both and was planning to install the MBox on another machine for the midi capabilities (I wonder what's holding me back? What can there possibly be that could put me off wanting to go through the process of setting up a fresh complete PT system? ) but I may have to install the MBox on my main machime (on a fresh boot option) to take advantage of this new-fangled midi stuff. So I just wondered what would happen if I ever forgot to unplug the old 001. Does it screw the MBox based system up? Or does the 001 retain some functionality? Someone here must have done this...
rtfm? Oh really? which particular page? I can't find it... And there's a good reason not to 'just try it' - PT might decide that the authorisation is up the spout and I might have to uninstall and go through the install procedure again (yawn) so it seemed there was no harm in asking here. I've seen sillier questions than mine here
if the two things are on seperate boots the one should never see the other. if u left one plugged in and booted to the other partition u'll get the found new hardware wizard which u could cancel or run thru and install and then disable in the device manager. i guess the example i'd use are network adaptors/and onboard/other sound cards, these are disabled in the device manager to let pt get on with its thing but they're still there in the machine. the other side is, do u need the inputs that the 001 gives u over and above what the mbox has? if not then sell the 001!
Actually the other boot options don't detect the 001 as a new device, though it stays powered. Or if they did, when I built the system 3 years ago, I told them to ignore it. But I don't recall doing that. It's not so much wanting more inputs (though I do wonder if as the thing does power up, and since other software can use it, whether it could somehow be utilised - the midi iputs too) it's because I'm worried that there may be conflicts if PT starts up and sees two bits of Digi hardware plugged in. Also: 1 - the MBox is destined for another machine, but it would be nice to be able to use it anywhere without taking the case off my big workstation and removing the 001 card each time I want to usePT7 there 2 - I have projects started in 6.4 and it's always a good idea to finish projects (in any software) in the same prog version you started it in, if only because when probs occur you can't be sure they weren't caused by the upgrade 3 - I plan to take at least one project here to a big studio to have it finished (Dolby SR encoding) and I'd rather not risk the problems that might arise if they haven't upgraded to PT7 yet. After all most film post places don't need 7's midi capabilities. I know there's that thing of making a session backwards compatible, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. Well, you did ask... Still, your suggestion of disabling the 001 in the device manager is a good one. So, has anyone ever installed an MBox and left the 001 card in? What happened?
