Water in drivers footwell

MessageAuthor

Hi all, I gather from search that this is a common problem. After 3 weekends checking I summised today that water collecting in drivers footwell is definitley rain water, & not anti-freeze or rear screen wash. I can't figure out where from & my question is has anyone discovered a common place of water entry? I can't find any vents, damaged seals or grommets or windscreen entry points. Also, I did put some radweld in the system recently & have since read on the forum that this could block & burst heater matrix.Would it be enough to backflush system & re-fill with anti-freeze mix to undo my mistake? Thanks, Dave. 1996 945 2.3 lpt,90,000, no a/c

RE: Water in drivers footwell

Hi, Flushing out the cooling system a couple of times, including one using a flush agent should help clear out the system. Make sure to run the car with flush agent for 20 odd minutes with the heat on full (and turn heat on and off a couple of times)... Leak: Do you have a sunroof? The sunroof drainage channel are a likely suspect in this case and can be cleared out with air or the careful application of a straightened out coat hanger.. Des. . . ;)

Thanks Ct..., I'll flush system through as you suggested, some time soon. No sunroof, but when washing car today did discover rubber seal on bottom corners of windscreen a bit perished.I took them out & put some sealant in their place.Even though the screen is bonded, I suppose this could be source of my problem - just keep eye on it. Many thanks for your reply, Dave.

check the drians from the ventilation air inlet at the bottom of the windscreen, they tell me these can get blocked and lead to water in either of the footwells. It's very unlikely to be the windscreen seal. I had a similar problem on a 760 and a new windscreen made no difference.

I had a problem with the fan housing on mine. Remove cover in passenger footwell. Fan housing sits up inside...white I think. The seal had gone where it went into the bodywork allowing drips to get in.

Hi dAVE I had the same problem with my 940 - rubber seals at the corner of the windscreen were missing or perished. I have filled with silicone sealant and now watch the water cascading down the outside of the car instead of disappearing somewhere inside (I think) When we get some decent weather I will know if the inside wells have dried out and know that I have sorted the problem
