What is the secret click used in this Youtube tutorial?

Just watching a 'step by step' video on adding chord names to a Reaper track. (ie. I want to be able to write text that shows the chord names of a song I'm composing.) In the opening 12 seconds I think the guy just drags out a midi track and then goes to 'add text event'...by holding control?(but maybe something else) Anyway when I do this...no chords appear...it just says 'untitled MIDI item'. I've tried making the font bigger... Here is a picture of what I've attempted: The long and the short...is what he is doing still possible in Reaper? How did he achieve this? I have found an alternative method where you can use 'Insert Empty Item' to add a text box...but this is more clumsy than the method used in the Youtube video. I've googled this and I'm really surprised how little information there seems to be about this. The ability to add the actual chords names above music seems an incredibly useful feature?

Try this: 1) Open the Action List 2) Run the Action View: Toggle show media cues in items

Insert->Empty item. Click on that quote button and enter your text, then click ok. Also you can add images. You should tick on "Stretch to fit item" on that window to have a large text.

Very cool trick. I wish I could put markers like that on non-MIDI items.
