Well I've been using Reaper now for a couple of weeks and while most of the application has impressed me, one thing I'm extremely frustrated with is how it fails to recognize new VST plugins. I recently installed my Izotope iDrum and another VST effect (Breverb) and no matter whatever "logical" step I take, i.e. browse to the folder where the app resides from the plugin tab in prefs, it won't post.Scanning, auto detect,re-scanning, all futile. This is a real hassle and something I've never encountered with other DAW's I've used, where the programs did a superior job scanning for new FX.....
I've had this a couple of times. One fix that worked was to make a new folder outside Reaper and place the dlls that weren't being seen in it and then adding that to the Paths in the Preferences VST section and then choosing the,"Clear Cache" rescan directory option. HTH :)
I've ended up copying every vst, vsti, etc to my reaper/plugins/FX folder. I have a short cut to the folder on my desktop for just that purpose. Reaper has no problem finding them.
I prefer to keep a VSTs folder on the root level of my drive, so that all my audio programs can share them. Simply add the path to the VST directory prefs in each program. Also makes it easy to set up multiple machines on your network for ReaMote. Simply copy the entire folder to each PC and it'll be in the same place on every one....
Well, it will recognize that are there now, but every time I actually try to add one to the track, it says: The following effect could not be loaded: VST: effect name (effect configuration is preserved)
