Latency ASIO M-audio FastTrack

Ok so I've read through some threads and I'm still confused. One thread gave me the impression that the M-Audio-USB was ASIO. I did download ASIO4all. When I chose ASIO the only thing that is available is my SoundMax digital audio. The only place the M-Audio shows up is in WaveOut. I can set the first buffer number to 3 and get down to 69ms but the quality doesn't seem as good would that be correct or are my ears deceiving me? Plus 69ms is still to much for comfort anyway. Should I be looking at the Audio buffering settings? The M-audio is not mine I'm just borrowing for Reaper testing. I'm going to get something I can record multiple channels with but I'd like to know a little more about what I'm doing before I go there. Also My computer is about 6 years old Dell 2400 2.66ghz 768ram (I know I need to upgrade that - I'm thinking replacing the 256 with a 1G making 1.5G should be enough?) any help much appreciated !! Thanks, Den

you don't have the M audio driver working. Did you go into preferences Audio devices and such? If so and there is no M Audio driver available then you will need to download one.

Thanks Doughboy - Ok so I downloaded the driver and I can get to the M-audio with ASIO as the Audio System. My ? now is how do I monitor. The only options are for the M-audio for the output. I've hooked up an amp and speakers to the output of the M-audio and I can hear the mic but how do I get reaper to play through the M-audio for playback and record monitoring. Does it not come back through the USB or what?? Thanks, Den

RE: Latency ASIO M-audio FastTrack

Ok I found the issue - Got to turn up the mix volume on the M-audio LOL. :D I still have an issue with this thing wiggin' out on me and getting all screechy. It doesn't seem to like anything done to it while it's plugged in. When I tried to plug headphones into it - it freaked out and went Screeeech.. And won't get back to normal. This has happened a couple times where it's freaked out. Gonna shut everything down and reboot. It should be back to normal. I'll see and let you know. I do know that I'm pretty sure I don't M-audio for my interface. I'll be back.... Ok I'm Back - Had some Lasagna and feeling good. The M-audio worked just fine after the reboot. It just doesn't like you messing with stuff after it's running it appears. Anyway I'm learning more and more as I go. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'LL NEED MORE. Blessings, Denny
