How to pan mono track (pre-fx)?

Advertising

MessageAuthor

I would like to pan a guitar track before a stereo reverb vst. I tried using the pan on the TCP but that pans post-fx, meaning that the entire stereo track is panned. If i pan pre-fx i get the following behaviour: 100% right - no sound 100% left - full volume (bit louder actually i think). guitar still in the middle. I'm thinking it might be left because it is Input 3 on my soundcard. I would be most grateful for a solution. PS. I have RTFM but it was a looong time ago.

Check your send. It sounds like you are sending only one channel to the reverb. You probably want to change 1 -> 1/2 to 1/2 -> 1/2. Then, put the send post pan/post volume. EDIT: Hang on, are you putting the reverb in the same track as the source? Don't do that. Create a new track and put the reverb 100% wet in there. Then send your guitar track like I talk about above.

Yeah that sounds right. I actually thought of that while i was in the shower before, its amazing what water can do. It's 3.30am here and i'm more awake than i've been all day :p I still don't understand why the pre-fx envelope is behaving the way it is though? Also i use a 100Hz HPF on my guitar tracks, would you advise putting it before or after the reverb? The reverb track would only be used for guitars. Thanks for your help! P.S. I just realised how much sense it makes to send all guitars to one reverb rather than to have a bunch of guitars each with their own verb. Muddy indeed. My mind that is.
